The artificial lake at Chitgar Park is one of the big projects in Tehran which has been designed on the basis of expert aptitude and studies of domestic specialists. Now, after its opening, it provides a new opportunity in the area of tourism in Tehran.The project for construction of an artificial lake in Tehran was raised as an urban law in the Comprehensive Plan in 1970 and was followed in 1976 and 1988 but was later abandoned. Finally in 2007 urban managers decided to implement the project after 40 years in the same geographical location which is now District 22 of Tehran Municipality. After completing the study phase, ground was broken for the project in the month of February 2012. Now after 15 months the first phase of the project has been launched in an area of 123 hectare and its massive recreational complex has been completed. Tehran Mayor Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf opened the Persian Gulf Martyrs Lake.
